MedStar is certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) AND accredited by COLA as a Moderate Complexity Lab.
This certification and accreditation allow us to do enhanced blood tests in the field, to help pinpoint patient medical needs and assure quality medical care and follow-up.
Of the approximately 17,000 ambulance agencies in the U.S., only 56 are certified by Medicare as a moderate complexity lab (0.3% of agencies). The rest have Medicare WAIVERS, allowing them to test blood sugar in the field.
Of the 56 certified agencies, only 28 are accredited. This means that MedStar is one of a mere 0.16% of EMS agencies in the country to be certified AND accredited to do enhanced blood tests in the field, to better care for our patients.
