We are thrilled to announce that we are taking THREE amazing kiddos trick or treating this year!
One nominated by a MedStar team member, one nominated by Cook Children’s, and one nominated from the community.
All families have agreed to share their stories to raise awareness about their kiddos and these illnesses.
Presley Tracy is a marvelous 15 year old girl who suffers from Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of epilepsy that typically becomes apparent during infancy or early childhood. Affected children experience several different types of seizures most commonly atonic, tonic and atypical absence seizures. Children with LGS may also develop cognitive dysfunction, delays in reaching developmental milestones and behavioral problems. LGS can be difficult to treat because it is resistant (refractory) to many kinds of antiseizure medications. Research is ongoing to identify and assess new therapies for LGS. Presley was nominated for this event by a family friend, a MedStar team member.
Estafany Serrato is an enchanting 8 y/o girl who suffers from Angelman Syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic disorder that shares symptoms and characteristics with other disorders including autism, cerebral palsy. People with Angelman syndrome have developmental problems that become noticeable by the age of 6 – 12 months. Other common signs and symptoms usually appear in early childhood like walking and balance disorders, gastrointestinal issues, seizures and little to no speech. Estafany was nominated for this event by Cook Children’s Health Care System.
Perrin King is an adorable 6 y/o boy who suffers from X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a rare genetic disorder that affects the white matter of the nervous system and the adrenal cortex. He was diagnosed one year ago this month, and the disease has progressed rapidly. Children with ALD end up in a vegetative state and often pass away within two to three years of the neurological symptoms’ starting. Perrin is currently on pediatric hospice. Perrin was nominated for this event by a family friend.
All 3 kiddos and families will arrive at the corner of Berkeley and Pembroke St. in Fort Worth about 6:30p on Sunday, October 29th.
